Are we entitled or are we anxious? Yes.

Nirnay Jain

f you have been on the internet, you have seen a Gary Vaynerchuk, aka Gary V, video. This article was sparked by one such video. In the video, he says, "Millenials are not entitled, they have options." I think that is very true - I do think us millennials and Gen Z definitely have a lot of options. You can make a two-minute video, post it online and now you are an entrepreneur. Isn't that just absolutely beautiful?! Well.
For those of us who have been lucky enough to make the most of the very many opportunities available today, I say thank you for showing is how to get it done and also efff you because damn. Now I have no excuse! Although it's true that we have a lot of options, instead of it being empowering for most of us - I think it has, in turn, had had the opposite impact. In a generation already low on self-belief and high on depression, the reality that it's 'easy' to be successful actually just ends up having a more negative impact. This has always been too true for me as well. The reason I have been able to write on Linkedin is two-fold - one is most of the people in my network are people I already talk to every day so I am comfortable writing for now. Also, I have slowly, excruciatingly slowly gained confidence to put myself out there. For most of my life, I have been the too anxious to even talk to my family kind of a person. And I think it is true for a lot of us out there too. So if you are reading this now, know that there a lot of us here just like you - you who constantly chooses to believe that you are not good enough, not creative enough, not funny enough, not smart enough...just not enough - we are all in this TOGETHER. We might make a tiktok out of our pain but we will do it together.

Hello neurotic friends, I also want to write about being 'entitled'. I think we are fully within our rights to do it and full right to do it. We are standing up for working rights, we are standing up for people being treated right and even if people don't agree with us - we will keep going, Eventually, even the people complaining about this will end up benefitting from this. Maybe we will finally be the generation that decreases shame in the workplace and maybe people can finally not work their shit out on other rather than facing it themselves, working on it and finally being liberated from the inner angst. So let's keep being entitled.
