Is the world ready for Gen Z to enter the workforce?

Is the world ready for Gen Z to enter the workforce?

So I talked to my friend and colleague today, and we talked about how they feel about themselves. As we talked about getting older and work, we had a moment of silence for just how much we hate how we have made nothing out of our lives. We see so many teenagers already having successful businesses; we see our fellow acquaintances build a following on social media, etc. All of this made us, as you would have guessed, not very happy. Now I know the first thing that is probably popping in your head is that comparison is the worst thing in the world. But it's tough to not do so in the current context of society and the prevalence of social media.
Beyond comparison, I believe, we all also understand that we are very blessed. We don't need to memorise anything or spend hours looking for information needed to do anything literally. When people say don't make excuses and be grateful, I think almost all of us actually understand that. The problem is, it is not empowering but rather crippling. Add to that the need to be conscientious and do the RIGHT thing; you are only starting to realise my generation's daily turmoil. I don't think any of us would disagree that angst is not unique to our generation. The problem is what is causing this angst - which, in my opinion, is unique.
I believe all of us also understand that if we are to move on, work in the world, and make an impact, we have to learn to work with the aforementioned angst. But we are not ready to offload pain, mistreat others, and harm the environment in the process. We have incredibly high standards for ourselves and others around us. Although I believe we have been guilty of being hyperbolic (or made to seem more hyperbolic that we were) in some of our responses, I don't think we should be lowering our standards - for ourselves or the society around us. What we need to learn is how do we do so healthily. How do we use the fact that we care so deeply to motivate us and not cripple us?
One of the ways that leaders can help us, in my opinion, in our journey is through talking to us honestly and being open-minded. The time where a leader can say anything, and the people working under would follow because "leader knows best" are over. If you push us in ways that don't make sense, we can show you credible studies why it makes no sense by literally going a finger. I know it sounds incredibly taxing and it honestly is. I have experienced first hand working with hundreds of gen Z people in my current role. But if our leaders can be patient with us, understand where we are coming from and strive to work together in ways best suited for everyone, I think we can use our incredibly high standards to make this world a much better place. And ultimately that's all any of us want.
