Minimalism is in. You don't need to look far these days to see a sophisticated setup that features a clean design, ambient lighting, and ample desk space—embodying an elegance that you would previously have only expected from a graphic designer. The Razer Huntsman Mini was developed with minimalists and gamers in mind, gathering feedback from content creators and Esports pros and finding out what features they wanted most.
Available in Black and Mercury White, Razer's latest offering, the Huntsman Mini, is a 60% form factor version of the Huntsman that caters to this gap in the mass-produced gaming market.
Its compact size leaves plenty of room for your mouse, a stand for your headset, or some thoughtfully placed plants. It features a braided, detachable USB Type-C cable, ensuring quick storage, smooth setup, and, most importantly, unhindered gameplay.
Although the keyboard lacks the home cluster and function keys, we're pleased that Razer has not prioritised form over function. The media, function and keyboard setting keys are still fully accessible via secondary shortcuts indicated with side-printed keycaps.
The Huntsman Mini has seven built-in, pre-set lighting modes that cycle through without the need to use Razer's Synapse software. Additionally, up to 6 profiles can be added to the onboard memory, allowing you to take your keyboard to work (very useful these days) or a LAN party without compromising style.
Featuring the fingerprint-resistant matte finish seen on its hefty predecessor and the same dynamic lighting effects we've come to know and love, this compact keyboard starts at £119 with the standard Clicky Optical switches. These switches sport an actuation distance of 1.5 mm and an actuation force of 45 grams and are a go-to choice for gamers who enjoy distinct tactile feedback.
If you'd like a slightly faster response (and can spare an extra tenner), you'll want to go for Razer's linear optical switches. These have an actuation distance of 1 and force of 40 grams, offering smoother, faster keystrokes that are easier on the ears—useful if you share an office with someone; as much like the clicking of a pen, the sound of a mechanical keyboard is perhaps best enjoyed by the person using it.
Unsure which gaming keyboard to purchase? Here's a roundup of the best keyboards for gaming in 2020.
