Overview

The Internet of Things has made it possible to reduce many household chores to afterthoughts.

You can schedule your robotic vacuum to clean the floors while you're at work, automatically lock your door when you leave, and turn your lights on and off from afar. All of this convenience can make a modern home feel a bit like The Jetsons. However, in this example I am going to present problems in the UX and a solution to it. This application incorporates data-driven and actionable insights into the user experience. It enables users to complete a desired task or action with ease.

Problem Statement

Controlling and automating home appliances from anywhere with Internet. Users tend to get confused and annoyed by the need to perform multiple clicks for real-life events such as leaving home. A wide range of unnecessary user actions.

Target Users

The target users are homeowners wanting to track their energy management and corporate offices to automate devices on a larger scale.

Research and Validation

I conducted a survey with various set of people and came up with the below ideas to develop an application with all features that would solve the problem. Part of them were using loT applications already and wanted their application to be easier to use and have improved features that included energy consumption statistics, multi-user management, automated device contro that woud assist them to have a better lifestyle changes. The rest of them wanted to use a smart home application that would automate their home appliances and help in maintaining a routine by minimizing user interactions, ie when leaving home turn off lights, turn off heating, air-condition, etc. am going to focus on the latter fo those pain points.
