Majapahit Batik Motif Exploration is a textile design research project exploring the reinterpretation of Majapahit visual heritage through contemporary digital design. The project focuses on translating historical references and motif exploration into textile patterns and fashion applications.
Role : Textile Designer | Design Development Team
Drawing inspiration from archaeological reliefs, terracotta ornaments, traditional decorative patterns, flora, fauna, and natural landscapes, the project reinterprets historical visual elements into contemporary batik motifs. The design approach seeks to preserve the cultural identity of Majapahit while presenting it through a modern textile design language that is relevant to today's creative industries.
Color Story : Inspired by the tranquil beauty of lotus ponds, this palette combines deep violet, indigo blue, and soft pink to express serenity, renewal, and the elegance of Majapahit visual heritage. The colors reinterpret traditional batik through a contemporary and sophisticated aesthetic.

Color Story : Golden ochre, terracotta, deep maroon, and dark brown are inspired by the earthy tones of Majapahit terracotta, temple architecture, and traditional batik dyes. Together, they create a warm and timeless palette that celebrates the richness of Indonesia's cultural heritage through contemporary textile design.

Sewing Pattern
The motifs are developed through the reinterpretation of Majapahit visual heritage, integrating symbolic elements such as lotus flowers, aquatic life, ornamental geometry, flowing water, and botanical forms. Rather than reproducing historical motifs, the designs transform these visual references into contemporary textile compositions using digital illustration, layered line work, and refined color palettes. The result is a collection that celebrates Indonesia's cultural heritage while exploring new possibilities in modern batik design.
This project was developed as part of the Batik Majapahit Design Development research initiative, published in the Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Creative Media, Design and Technology (REKA 2018), Atlantis Press.
