"Someone said just enjoy it, you’re in a Bond movie, you don't have to take it seriously, which in a sense is true, because there are so many things going on, but then we all also know you have to take it seriously because of your character, if you're not convinced with your character you can't deliver the sincerity of a character, nobody will believe what you're playing or what you're trying to tell them"

For showcasing such sincerity in her characters, Michelle has received numerous awards throughout her career. The major awards she won and is still credited with by both fans and critics are the Asian Film Awards, where she received the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award in 2009, and the Women Film Critics Circle Awards, where she won the Best Actress award for "Crazy Rich Asians" in 2018.
She says “You know, you get to be my age, and you can see it literally slipping through your fingers because you are no longer that prime age. The worst is when people think, ‘Oh, she doesn’t look like she did in her 20s, so she can’t physically do the same things,’” “What they don’t understand is that I’ve learned some things over the years, and I’m more clever and smarter in how I can sustain my stamina. I’m as fit as I was before because I know how to look after myself much better than when I was younger.”
In 2023, Michelle Yeoh marked her 61st birthday, where she looked as radiant as ever. She's all about staying healthy and fit through simplicity, minimalism and physical activity.

1) Her Skincare Routine

"When I wake up I want to wake up my skin."
0:09- 0:14 Michelle Yeoh's Guide to Martial Arts for the Face & Sculpting Beauty Routine | Beauty Secrets
Michelle loves to do face massages before she starts her skincare routine. You might think that face massage is just a fancy step that celebrities do, which is half the truth. Face massages stretch your face and keep your skin tight, fight against wrinkling and make it look more youthful. It’s like an anti-ageing mantra for the face, and Michelle knows that too well. That’s why she does this every single day. To show how important this step is in her beauty routine, she not only does this once with a face massager but twice with an HR roller.
Michele believes that people should listen to their skin and adjust the products they use as necessary. She told Vogue, “My skincare routine changes depending on the climate I'm going to, if I'm going back to Malaysia or Asia where it’s humid, I use a lighter lotion type of skincare but if I’m going to, where it's winter, where the conditions are a bit harsh, then I tend to use slightly creamier lotions”
The way Michelle keeps herself active could also be considered as one of her little beauty secrets. Even when she’s brushing her teeth or massaging her face, she throws a few kicks and squats to keep her body moving and feel much younger than she already is. We’ll reveal more of her exercise routine later on in this video.
Yeoh says, ‘The most important skincare routine is drinking a lot of water, that really helps with good skin and sets up the canvas for you to paint on’. Water is very important in skin care because it helps maintain skin elasticity, making your skin less prone to wrinkling & effectively fighting off premature ageing.
"With your skin, the most important is drinking water.”

A notable research published in the International journal Of Cosmetic Science found that “increased water intake positively impacted skin’s physiology.” The participants who drank higher amounts of water showed remarkable skin hydration and more radiant complexion.
When it comes to the products she uses, it all comes down to simplicity. Instead of falling for fancy brand names, Michelle uses products that actually suit her skin. One example is Sun-Block, she says; "i never leave the house without sun block”

You might think it's just for a fair complexion or avoiding a tan, but it goes far beyond that. Sun-block plays a vital role in protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays, preventing skin ageing and reducing the risk of diseases like cancer. Sun Block is a powerful asset against premature ageing and Michelle knows this too well.
She listens to her body, embraces what it needs, and is grateful for what it does for her, and that’s something most of us don’t do in our routine. That’s the reason she has aged like fine wine over the years.
In a nutshell, Michelle Yeoh's skincare routine consists of face massage, simple products, and accepting oneself without feeling ashamed of what one actually needs. These simple steps keep not only her skin but also her heart youthful and radiant.

The Malaysian-born actress is a fan of food from her home country. In an interview, she also mentions that she is a big foodie although her preference is to maintain her health and stay energised throughout the day, and food plays a very important role in doing so.

a) Chicken Rice

Yeoh loves chicken and she’s been quite vocal about it.
“I love the chicken noodles, the chicken rice, the chicken..”
1:16 https://www.tiktok.com/@netflixmy/video/7182503356567489793
Beyond taste, Chicken is a lean source of high-quality protein, essential for muscle growth, repair, and overall health. It provides energy for daily activities, and workouts and helps to boost immunity. It also contains essential B- -vitamins, which are important for a healthy nervous system, and minerals, such as iron, zinc and selenium, which are important for psychomotor development, work capacity and preventing premature ageing by reducing oxidative stress and DNA damage respectively.
It's very important that chicken is served boiled or baked and never fried because fried chicken soaks up polyunsaturated oil which is very bad for heart health.
Michelle enjoys her chicken with an array of meals including Rice, which is also a gluten-free source of carbs, making it suitable for individuals with gluten sensitivities who want to maintain a healthy gut and hence a healthy life. A chicken and rice diet can be beneficial when incorporated into a well-balanced meal plan that includes a variety of other nutrient-dense foods. This diet can promote weight loss and muscle building, and provide essential nutrients when practised with moderation and proper portion control. It‘s no wonder Michelle has been doing her own stunts for most of her movies.

b) Big Head Prawns

Michelle enjoys eating big head prawns.
“I like the big head prawns..”

Prawns are not only delicious but also an extremely healthy food that can be prepared in many different ways. Including prawns in the diet provides protein, which promotes muscle growth and fat loss. Prawns are a good source of vitamin B12 which helps to maintain a healthy nervous system and supplements the formation of healthy red blood cells and healthy DNA. They are also high in Selenium, which inhibits the growth of cancer cells in the body. Prawns consist of Vitamin E, which is a super antioxidant & these Antioxidants help neutralise harmful free radicals which, on their own, make ageing occur really really fast. Antioxidants are really really good plus, they're great for your skin. Regular eating of prawns, and other kinds of seafood generally, makes you look younger.

c) Fruits and Vegetables

Michelle enjoys incorporating fruits and vegetables into her diet. Because most of her meals include side dishes, she ensures that her plate is filled with nutrient-dense leafy greens such as spinach, cabbage, and even cucumber and eggplant. A common ingredient that Michelle loves in her meals is cucumber. Not only does it keep her hydrated with its high water content, but it is also high in Vitamin K, potassium, and magnesium. These minerals keep the skin hydrated, glowing, and overall healthy. Spinach and cabbage also hold great preference in her diet as they both are rich in fibre and keep your gut healthy and Michelle knows, a healthy gut means healthy skin.
On the fruit side, Michelle is not typically fond of sweets. She rather opts for the savoury aisle. However, fruits are present in her diet on and off. Michelle eats as much fruit as she needs, knowing that a plate full of various colours of vegetables and fruits will keep her looking and feeling healthy. She likes to snack on berries, bananas, and apples. These are especially high in fibre, which increases collagen production in your skin and makes it appear more youthful and vibrant. Michelle has also developed a taste for avocados as she has interacted with Americans. They are high in vitamins C and K, which not only promote skin health but also increase energy, contributing to Michelle's active lifestyle.

d) Iced Coffee

Just like you, Yeoh Likes Coffee, The only difference is that she prefers it iced, and she needs it first thing in the morning.
Dr. William Li, a world-renowned Harvard-trained medical doctor & researcher, says that While coffee is a great way to wake up and get ready for the day, the most beneficial substance it contains is Chlorogenic Acid, a naturally occurring chemical that does a lot of things like improving your blood flow, stimulating your stem cells to help your organs regenerate, improves the gut microbiome, which most certainly equals a healthy skin, lowers inflammation and improves metabolism. It’s also an antioxidant and it helps boost the immune system.
With Michelle's list of foods, one can easily tell she keeps herself educated. She knows which foods contain what ingredients and keeps track of whether they help her body grow better or not and her choices reflect her balanced approach to living a long and healthy life.

3) 1 Food she Never Eats

One food she avoids at all costs is excessive sugar.
Yeoh steers clear of foods high in refined sugars, such as sugary drinks, desserts, and candies. These can cause blood sugar spikes and crashes, disrupting her energy levels and mood. The crash can lead to fatigue, irritability, and cravings for more sugar, excessive sugar can increase the ageing process by destroying her skin barrier bit by bit. It can cause weight gain and diseases associated with high lipids such as diabetes and heart disease. Do you know cancer cells feed on sugar?
A study conducted by the American Heart Association found that high intake of added sugars is linked with increasing risk of cardiovascular diseases like heart attacks and stroke. The study suggests that decreasing sugar intake can lead to major improvements in heart health.

4) Her Exercise Routine

“Before I open my eyes I start stretching because that’s the best way to wake up your body is to say: I'm sorry! Please forgive me! Thank you! I love you!”
2:38-2:43 First Things First with Michelle Yeoh
From her skincare routine to her exercise, Yeoh goes above and beyond to maintain her youthful appearance. There is no denying that she is an incredible martial arts star and she puts in plenty of effort and dedication to ensure that her body is in its best form. Cardio and swimming play a big role in her fitness regime. According to the British GQ, Yeoh also spends a lot of time doing Tai Chi. She spoke about the effects of exercising for her skin, saying that she gets a post-workout glow. She has an intensive exercise routine, practising yoga and doing around two hours of cardio per day. She revealed to CBS that she stretches and shadow boxes every morning before work too.
“I practise every day. My flexibility is there. My stamina is there. So it’s like when you wake up the first thing you do is brush your teeth, you wash your face. So, as I’m brushing my teeth, I’m doing my squats, you know and then I will do my kicks and things like that.”

Michelle has a special fondness for Tai Chi as she was the first actress to perform her own stunts in Hong Kong films. This ancient form of Chinese martial arts is used to maintain balance, strength, and flexibility while also developing internal fortitude. According to her, the focus required by Tai Chi keeps her mind off of unimportant things and allows her to concentrate on the present moment. Michelle believes that whether it is preparing for a specific character or simply doing her Tai Chi routine in general is the key to her strong and toned body, which gives her such a youthful overall appearance even though she is 61 years old!
Michelle also prioritises running and cardio workouts in her fitness routine. In an interview with Vogue, the award-winning actress revealed that it is customary for her to exercise and walk up to 10 kilometres per day. This type of cardio is so simple yet effective that it has been shown to sculpt your body like it was handcrafted, which is how Michelle looks. The way she moves and carries herself shows that she works hard to stay in shape even at her age.
While Michelle enjoys working up a sweat, she also enjoys low-impact physical activities such as stretching. In one of her interviews, she also stated that she starts her day by stretching because it keeps her active throughout the day.
“Remember, you can do your kicks, you can do your stretches while you’re also waking up and exercising”

They both desired children, but Yeoh was unable to conceive due to physical reasons. She even underwent fertility treatments like IVF but wasn't successful. This ultimately contributed to the breakdown of their marriage, as her ex-husband reportedly wanted a large family.
When asked if she was sad that she didn’t end up having children with her first marriage Michelle said,” Oh yes, I mean still sad, I mean I love kids, that’s one of the biggest joys in anybody's life, um but it is what it is. It wasn’t the lack of trying, we did whatever, it was necessary to try and umm unfortunately I was physically unable to.”
However, the Academy Award-winning actress overcame it, as do all of her characters, and she is now married to Jean Todt, her boyfriend of over 19 years, who took over as President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile in 2009.
