Ombelle — Custom Shopify Theme for a Botanical Skincare Brand

Concept project. Ombelle is a fictional skincare brand built on a single plant family, the umbellifers: centella, fennel, angelica and carrot seed. I designed the brand and every page in Figma, then built it as a custom Shopify theme on Dawn.

The brief was a storefront that feels like a botanist's notebook, calm and editorial, while still doing the hard commerce work: product discovery, subscriptions, refills and a higher average order value.

Every product is a numbered specimen, No. 01 to No. 12, in the order you use them.

The index: all twelve listed like a herbarium, with each product image following the cursor

The ritual: a pinned stage that walks through Cleanse, Treat and Hydrate

Plate to page: a View Transition carries the product image from the card into the product page

Nothing is hard-coded. The client edits everything in Shopify admin, and every section works in the theme editor.

Product metafields: specimen number, Latin name, sensory line, skin feel, aroma, texture, and "Follow with"

Metaobjects: ingredients (each with its own page), regimen questions and answers, stockists

Selling plans: refill subscriptions through Shopify Subscriptions, every 1, 2 or 3 months

Cart: free 2 ml samples as $0 lines, plus a free-shipping threshold set in theme settings

Regimen quiz: four questions, then a 3- or 5-step routine with a reason for every product (metaobjects, no app)

Ingredient glossary: every plant has a page that links to the products containing it

Product page: refill and subscription options, specimen notes, disclosures, and a sticky buy bar on mobile

Cart drawer: free-shipping progress, a refill suggestion, and a choose-2-of-6 samples picker

Collection: Search & Discovery filters for step, concern, skin type and size

Brand: guidelines in 10 frames (logo, colour, type, spacing, components, imagery, motion, voice)

Design system: Figma variables with desktop, tablet and mobile modes, plus 16 components

Pages: 10 pages, plus cart, search, menu, filter, 404 and password states, at 1440, 834 and 390 px

Shopify theme: custom sections on Dawn with Liquid, metafields, metaobjects and selling plans, all editable in the theme editor
