The Brief

A client needed a custom oversized hoverboard built around a three-wheel configuration. The design had to go from initial concept through to CAD-ready files, covering the full industrial design process. The hoverboard included safety features like brake lights and signal lights, with remote-controlled operation.

My Role

Industrial Designer, responsible for the entire design process: initial hand-drawn concept sketches, design refinement, 3D modeling, and final CAD deliverables.
Tools used: Hand-drawn sketches, Adobe Photoshop, Fusion 360, KeyShot

Design Approach

Concept development — Started with hand-drawn sketches to explore the three-wheel layout and overall proportions. The oversized form factor meant every line and surface had to feel intentional at scale; small design decisions become very visible on a vehicle this size.
Three-wheel configuration — The trio wheel setup gives the hoverboard a wider stance and more stability than standard two-wheel designs. The layout influenced every downstream decision: deck shape, wheel housing geometry, and weight distribution.
Safety integration — Brake lights and signal lights were designed into the body rather than bolted on as afterthoughts. The lighting integrates with the overall form language, keeping the design clean while meeting functional safety requirements.
Refinement to CAD — Moved from approved sketches into Fusion 360 for precise 3D modeling, then rendered in KeyShot for client presentation. Photoshop handled final compositing and presentation graphics.

Outcome
