Lagos Storytelling Challenge Website and Web Application

Project Overview
This is a web application created to support the Lagos Youth Storytelling Challenge, an initiative designed to empower young writers across Lagos State. The platform invites secondary school students to submit original stories that reflect their experiences, cultural heritage, and imaginative narratives. Through this digital experience, users can register, submit entries, and participate in a statewide creative competition that celebrates storytelling and youth expression. The Challenge Storytelling is a powerful tool for cultural preservation and creative expression, but traditional submission methods often limit reach and engagement. The goal was to design a web application that makes participation seamless for students, guides them through submission requirements, and aligns with the competition’s educational mission—all while handling potentially large volumes of entries and maintaining clarity, accessibility, and responsiveness. My Role I led the UI/UX design of the LagosStorytelling web application and website, focusing on:
Clear information architecture and easy registration flow
Intuitive story submission process
Visually engaging layouts that reflect Lagos’s diverse narrative energy
Responsive design for use on mobile and desktop devices
Design Approach & Solution The platform was designed to guide students through every step of participation, from understanding competition rules to uploading their stories. Key screens include:
Home & Call-to-Action: Encourages participation with bold, clear messaging
Submission Portal: A clean, form-driven interface where users upload stories and enter required details
Guidelines & Eligibility Pages: Helps students understand theme requirements and submission standards
Emphasis was placed on readability and accessibility, with clear typography, consistent spacing, and mobile-first layouts ensuring the experience works across devices commonly used by students and educators. Final Outcome The final web application and website delivers a smooth, accessible platform for young storytellers to share their narratives with confidence. By making the submission process user-friendly and encouraging participation through clear messaging, the platform contributes to positioning Lagos as a cultural hub and gives youth a powerful digital space to express their stories.
