After the rabbit year, which brought Taiwanese people vitality and energy, we are now expecting the arrival of the Dragon Year. The dragon holds a significant place in Asian culture as a traditional symbol; however, I aimed to give it a transformation with a new approach. The Chinese language has numerous pictographs, and these characters consist of drawings of the objects they represent. 龍 (lóng), which means dragon, represents its mythical appearance. I simplified the character and introduced some squircles in the typeface. This not only mirrors the round shape of the dining table on our Lunar New Year’s Eve gatherings, but it also gives itself the meaning of reunion (團圓). Lastly, while the main composition adopted a contemporary style, I decided to incorporate a conventional colour scheme (red, black, and gold), highlighting a key feature of spring couplets.
