Frost and Fire Festival Brochure Design

This brochure is for a fictional event called the Frost and Fire Festival taking place across three days in the Winter in Vancouver. The idea behind this event was that winter is a time when people came together for family and warmth across all cultures. It is something we share as humanity, no matter where we come from or who we are. The goals of the design thus were as follows:
To visually represent the main vision and values of this event
To organize all information needed to navigate this event in an accessible and pleasing way
Going into this project I already had a fairly good idea on how I wanted to tackle the premise. The concept around the event was that winter is always a time when we gather for warmth, which contrasts against the cold nature of the season. So, I wanted to portray this with a warm and cool colour palette. However, that still leaves room for a lot of possibilities, so I used a mood board to explore what types of colour palettes would work and how they might combine with other elements, such as typography, to convey an overall atmosphere of warmth, family, and heart.
I worked in Photoshop and InDesign at the same time. Photoshop handled my illustration, while I had InDesign handle the layout. The Photoshop file was linked to the InDesign file, I could adjust anything small along the way, but otherwise the template I put into my Photoshop file kept my artwork contained to the zones I wanted them to. Both programs open made it easier to make finishing touches like adjusting the way the words wrap around the tree....
