THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE | "Προς Μενοικέα" / "To Menoikea"
ABOUT THE PLAY The "Menoikeis"—those to whom Epicurus' letter is addressed—live in a hellish state. They are people without joy, unhappy, dissatisfied, and modern-day individuals suffering from depression and other related mental illnesses. The play takes place in a clinic and its garden. But didn't Epicurus also refer to his school as a "garden"? There, the "Menoikeis" gather to discuss their clinical experiences and their recovery, driven by the hope of restoring their mental health.

CONCEPT The main concept captures the "Menoikeis" mental struggle of solitary confinement, coupled with the hope that, indeed, things do get better. The chaotic environment exists outside of their own "ideal" little world, but the freedom one can feel as a free being (like birds) is incomparable. Rays of light and hope slowly enter the scenenery, reflecting the healing that occurs in our real-life "heroes." The bold typography represents the "weight" of their situation, while the curved details on the "M" signify that things are starting to change and highlight the versatility their mental state now possesses.
PROCCESS The scenery is created through a digital collage, featuring a photo from the promotional photoshoot of the actors and actresses as the main subject. Royalty-free photos are used to complete the concept, with ink brush details added through a digitizer. Once the scenery was complete, the artwork adjusted in layouts for the corresponding digital and printed media.
