Overview

Velledalen is a small Norwegian commune that needed a digital portal to connect with residents and promote local life. The site had to serve multiple purposes: share news and announcements, promote local events, offer tourist information, and showcase community resources.

Challenge

Design a clear and welcoming website that balances functionality with emotional tone — combining event listings, announcements, community updates, and regional branding in a way that feels modern but still local and familiar.

Goals

Make the portal easy to navigate for all age groups
Reflect a Scandinavian, minimal aesthetic
Ensure accessibility and readability
Present information in a clean, uncluttered way
Support both tourism and daily life of locals

Design Approach

Used soft colors and generous white space to reflect Scandinavian simplicity
Applied a modular grid layout to support flexible content blocks
Prioritized typographic hierarchy and legibility
Created clear navigation paths for news, events, and community sections
Designed responsive layouts for mobile, tablet, and desktop

Key Features

Event calendar and agenda section
News/announcements board
Links to local institutions and businesses
Handpicked imagery that reflects local culture and nature
Fully accessible color contrast and font sizing

Results
