Built through Aircards in collaboration with NTN and This Is Energy to celebrate the launch of the Vauxhall Astra Electric. The campaign ran across two hand-painted murals in London and Manchester, with the AR experience activating the Astra Electric directly over and around the physical artwork through image tracking. The campaign also included an at-home SLAM experience, letting users place a full-scale 3D model of the Astra Electric in their own environment via world AR. A first of its kind for NTN.

IMPACT

The campaign generated strong engagement at both mural sites and wide social media coverage, picked up by JSR Agency, Stellantis and You, and Vospers. Metalitix spatial analytics and Google Analytics were integrated to track scene interaction and campaign performance.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Built with A-Frame, Three.js, and 8th Wall. Multiple image target tracking anchored the animated 3D car to each mural, with the experience needing to hold accurately across varied viewing distances, angles, and UK outdoor lighting conditions. The at-home mode used SLAM world tracking for real-space car placement. Metalitix and Google Analytics integrated for spatial and engagement tracking. Optimised for fast load times and consistent performance across mobile devices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Lead: Owned the full AR experience development across both the mural and at-home experiences, covering 3D integration, tracking setup, and interaction. AR Precision: Matched the animated Astra Electric to the physical murals accurately across multiple perspectives, distances, and outdoor lighting conditions. SLAM Experience: Built the at-home world AR mode for real-space car placement using SLAM. Analytics: Integrated Metalitix for 3D spatial analytics and Google Analytics for campaign performance tracking. Optimisation: Optimised code and assets for fast load times and consistent visual quality across a wide range of mobile devices.
