Background Behind the Project

"Phoneless. Tokenless. Passwordless" shows the problem with passwords and how the right cybersecurity approach can solve it. This engaging 30 second video conveyed our message about the problems with passwords, existing passwordless authentication methods and the benefits of a better cybersecurity approach. The commercial received 300,000 impressions over the course of 60 days.
Working on the commercial project was a chance to showcase my skills in video production and design, and I used several tools in the Adobe Creative Suite to create the video. Adobe Premiere Pro was my main tool for editing the footage, while After Effects and Illustrator were crucial in creating the graphic elements and animating them.

Style

I used Google's passwordless commercials as inspiration to create the pacing, look, and feel of the video. Google's existing commercials are short clips of a user on their phone, frustrated about using passwords with text popping up intermingled with animation.
For our version of the commercial video, I wanted to make it more engaging by choosing an upbeat song. However, I avoided using electronic and corporate-sounding music and opted for a song that was jazzier and retro.
Video-wise, we used both stock videos of people on their phones. Some of the shots were selfie-based, others had users and their phones in the frame. This depicted the emotion that the user should feel when using a traditional passwordless solution versus our own passwordless authentication solution.
Animation-wise, I made short motion graphics to depict situations that could not be shown easily on stock-video. Combined with the stock video, the video is much more engaging.

Short Animations

To make the video more engaging, I intermingled short animations in between shots of stock video. These short animations better engage the audience than using only stock videos, especially because the text throughout the video are short sentences that may make the overall video feel boring and slow.

"They can't be used by everyone."

At this frame, I depicted four users via shapes and had them slightly moving in this shot. Within 1-2 seconds, these users have their 'body' color change to show that not everyone can use traditional passwordless authentication methods.

"They're expensive."

At this frame, I had a circle pop-up on the phone screen with a white arrow pointing up and moving up. The arrow would stay in frame for half a second then move out of frame. This sequence repeated 2 times. Meanwhile, under the text, four dollar signs "$" appear quickly.
This depicts how the price of traditional methods are increasing.

"They can be hacked."

At this frame, I had the phone screen turn red. Then, I had a yield sign pop-up which shakes every half second, so that the shot does not look still.

"Scan a finger at any desktop to login."

At this point in the animation, the message changed to promote the benefits of using our flagship product, Identity-Bound Biometrics as a passwordless solution. On the left-hand side, the fingerprint is filled in with blue, then the laptop screen turns green with a checkmark. This shows that the user is verified.
On the right-hand side, the text pops up with the beat of the song.

Soundtrack

The song that was used for the video was Papi Beat by Kicktracks. It's an electronic and hip-hop song that properly added a playful and upbeat tone to the video.
For the video, I followed every measure-beat and used that sound to cut to the next part of the video. The song also has a main beat-drop, and at that point (0:13 in the commercial), I switched the message over to promote our flagship product.
Once the beat drop starts, the pacing and song change drastically, giving the user an understanding that the message of the commercial changed from discovering the issue to now finding a solution.

The Final Result

This is final result of the commercial video.
