Editing for a colleague's private writing project. A third installment in their fiction series with over 80,000 words.
Work included: Developmental editing over plot points, referring back to colleague's established lore in the first two installments to check for accuracy, reading for grammar, syntax, and ease of reading for readers with dyslexia.
Comments of overall impression as a returning reader, and first-time reader of the newest installment to help the author address missing context clues. Including comments about what the author is doing well.
Line and copy editing with provided comments over Google Docs and regular communication.
Outcomes:
Major fixing of sections for believability including minor-rewrites of character motivation
Research into how to make a piece more readable for dyslexic fans and addressing the findings accordingly
Minor edits towards wordplay ("ears perked" fixed to "eyebrows perked")
Grammar and syntax editing
Explanations provided via Google Comments as to what edits may need to happen and why - no editing was done in-document per colleague's request.
