Amex Skills Framework

Founded in 1850, American Express is one of the most valuable brands in the world. The company is also highly ranked on Fortune’s list of 100 Best Companies to work for.

As a full-stack engineer, I had an opportunity to work on the Amex Skills Framework - an internal web application for the HR department.

I was responsible for:

• Utilizing and extending pre-existing JavaScript API,
• Planning the app’s architecture and initial wireframes,
• Creating the entire frontend app from scratch,
• Helping to make the UI/UX decisions, based on Amex Design Language System,
• Writing automatic E2E tests.



What have I learned?

• Express.js - I had improved my skills of writing backend with this popular Node.js framework.
• MongoDB - used it previously with PHP, this time had an opportunity to learn it in a JavaScript environment.
• Cypress - I've written more complex tests, utilizing custom commands, helpers, and data factories.
• Skills Framework - I got familiar with the idea of skills framework in general and how competency management can be beneficial for any organization.
