The Challenge
Jelly Bean Kids Zone started up during the pandemic, which was an amazing journey. They had called me in to do their logo illustration. We were brainstorming together, and at first when they came up with the idea of "children flying in a jelly bean airplane", I must admit it sounded crazy! They were passionate about it, though, so I had to bring this idea to life.
Adding on the logo's font was easy, it had to be colorful, jelly-textured and fun!
The store needed to be painted, and working with the client, I came up with the mountain placement and a plan for how it would look. It had to be eye-catching from the outside and be like a child's dreamland, perhaps something that would've enchanted me when I was a child! I chose the colors and made some stencils for the clouds and painted the store.
The next element was to furnish the store with branded Jelly Bean Kids Zone clothing tags, shopping bags, COVID-19 hand sanitizer station and an outdoor signage for mall shoppers to notice the new store as they walk by.
Social Media & in-store marketing
The story almost ended there! The keys were handed off to Jelly Bean Kids Zone and they were off! However, less than a year later they called us back to work on their social media & in-store marketing. The owners needed to focus on operations, and the page didn't aesthetically look up to par!
After some strategy calls, generating of a monthly plan and a long photoshoot, the new bold, colorful, brand-aligned look for the new page was ready. The client was able to see what their new page was going to look like and approve beforehand with a mockup. The bio was optimized for customers to read information easier and more quickly, profile photo got more contrast and the characters illustrated for the logo would be featured more throughout the page for consistent branding.
Strategy for the social media and in-store marketing was one of my favorite elements. There needed to be in-store signage to get persons who visited the store to know about our social media page. When we did promotions like 10% off at Christmas, they would have to be following in order to get access to to the discount - which meant that they would be seeing more product highlights that they may not have noticed in store. They could also scan the QR code for easy access. Rewards cards and loyalty cards would help with repeat customers as well, we would get customers' information for the rewards cards and it would be digital, while the lotalty cards would encourage them to come back and get a guarunteed discount on their 10th purchase.
Below are featured are some of the posts and stories I came up with. Besides products, they feature some strategic concepts - the "Jelly Bean Kid" would highlight some of the kids who shop in the store and increase brand-loyalty alongside making them relate to our brand mascot/ illustration characters (who now had names.. Melani and Mikhai), "month favorites" like the October favorites below would now feature some clothing items and outfit pairings below (and we could track whether or not they and similar items like them sold for the month), quizzes and jokes for parents to share with their children (or do them themselves, we won't judge!).
