Introduction

Imagine a world where learning Japanese becomes a captivating journey of exploration and growth. This is the story of "Benkyou-GO," a revolutionary mobile app that emerged from the collaborative efforts of three interns and the Japanese Literature Department.
Our mission was clear: to create a learning platform tailored to the unique needs of Japanese Literature students. Through close collaboration with stakeholders, we aimed to develop an app that offered valuable resources and interactive features to elevate language proficiency.

Key Features:

Vocabulary Expansion: Benkyou-GO boasts an extensive collection of Japanese vocabulary, spanning diverse topics crucial to the Japanese Literature curriculum. Our goal was to provide a strong linguistic foundation.
Discussion Materials: Interactive reading passages and literary excerpts were integrated into the app, enabling students to delve deeper into Japanese literature and refine critical thinking skills.
Gamification: Learning should be fun! Benkyou-GO incorporates quizzes and games to engage students actively and reinforce their learning experience.
Mobile Integration: Recognizing the significance of mobile devices, Benkyou-GO was designed as a mobile app, ensuring accessibility and convenience for students on the go.
Guided by stakeholders, our intern team was dedicated to delivering a learning tool aligned with departmental requirements and student needs. This project not only contributed to education but also honed our UI/UX design and mobile app development skills.
Challenge: As a UI/UX Designer Intern at Bina Nusantara University, my task was to collaborate across departments to craft a mobile app for Japanese language learning. The challenge? Balancing the needs of language learners with the university's objectives.
Solution: To conquer this challenge, I leveraged my skills in user research, designing user-centered interfaces, and collaborating across teams. Here's how I navigated the solution:
User Research and Collaboration: I delved into extensive user research, understanding the preferences and pain points of language learners. Collaborating with educators enriched the app's design with pedagogical insights, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Open dialogues with developers ensured the harmony of design ideas and technical feasibility. This partnership refined the design and seamlessly integrated functionality.
Iterative Design Process: An iterative approach involving continuous feedback loops with cross-functional teams allowed us to identify and resolve UI/UX issues early on, minimizing challenges during development.
Project Flow and Deadline Management: Trello became my ally in managing project milestones and deadlines. This organized approach maintained communication and transparency among team members.
Results: Through collaborative synergy and cross-functional teamwork, the mobile app for Japanese language learning came to fruition. Educators and students lauded its user-friendly interface and alignment with educational goals. This case study underscores my prowess in cross-departmental collaboration, feedback integration, and crafting user-centered designs that unite user needs and business objectives.
Key Takeaways:
Collaboration's Impact: Cross-functional teamwork elevates design solutions.
Iterative Excellence: User research and iterative design are cornerstones of user-centered products.
Effective Management: Project flow and deadline management ensure success in collaborative environments.
Unveiling Potential: Transparent communication ignites productive cross-functional partnerships.
This case study exemplifies my commitment to enhancing user experiences through collaboration, iterative design, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
