Elad Shaviv of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beersheba, needed a 10,000-word academic paper proofread and copy edited before publication. The paper, "A Delicate Dance: Value-Added Services and Electricity Security in Decentralized Systems," explored the intersection of value-added services and electricity security in decentralized energy systems.
What I Did
I proofread and copy edited the full manuscript using Microsoft Word with Track Changes enabled, with Grammarly running in the background as a secondary check. My work covered:
Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors
Improving sentence structure and clarity while preserving the author's voice
Ensuring consistency in terminology, formatting, and abbreviations throughout
Checking style and readability across all 10,000 words
The Challenge
The main challenge was getting up to speed with the highly technical jargon used in the electricity and decentralized energy industry. Accurate proofreading in this domain required understanding the subject matter well enough to distinguish between genuine errors and intentional technical usage.
The Outcome
The paper was successfully published on ScienceDirect, one of the world's leading platforms for peer-reviewed scientific literature. It is publicly available at: View the published paper on ScienceDirect
