The Project

Dr. Peter Barczak needed a 27,000-word scientific book proofread and copy edited before publication. The book, "Secrets of Baltic Amber: From Ancient Trees to Modern Medicine — Volume 1: Chemistry & Bioactive Compounds," covers the chemistry of Baltic amber and its possible health applications.

What I Did

I proofread and copy edited the entire manuscript using Microsoft Word with Track Changes enabled, with Grammarly running in the background as a secondary check. My work covered:
Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors throughout all 27,000 words
Rewriting and restructuring passages into clearer English, as the author is a native Polish speaker
Ensuring consistency in technical terminology, formatting, and abbreviations
Providing comments and suggestions to the author where meaning needed clarification

A Sample of My Editing

The Challenge

This project had two main challenges. First, the author's native language is Polish, so many passages needed to be carefully reworked into clear, natural English while preserving the author's intended meaning and scientific accuracy. Second, the book is dense with technical terminology from chemistry and biomedical science, which required me to become familiar with the subject matter to edit confidently.

The Outcome

The book was successfully published and is now available for purchase on Amazon.
