Designing a first-to-market digital experience for registered AARP members to eat healthier and stay active as they age. AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering Americans 50 and older to choose how they live as they age.
Our team was onboarded to this project after successfully delivering an app concept that challenged users to train their brain as they age. 4 weeks later, we were quickly tasked to absorb the guiding principles of a new published study and dieting program that would help to support people aged 50 years and older through a protein focused eating and activity plan.
While leading discovery phase of the project, it was clear that our first challenge was understanding how to accurately translate the strict dieting program into a tracking dashboard and content library based on the requirements we were given. The next challenge, was filling in gaps in the companies new corporate design system that would bring all AARP assets underneath one visual language and structure.
Next was figuring out how to create a compelling experience that would increase daily active users and, more importantly, to demonstrate to stakeholders that the program works.
The end result was a concept that leveraged proven gamification and behavior change mechanics to create a rewarding and enjoyable experience around eating healthy and staying active.
