Company Name:

Zeal Works

Company Description:

We are a company that makes and distributes all-American soft drinks. Our main product is made with a secret recipe and served in your favorite diners. Our target audience is college students. We want to convey a sense of fame, while at the same time being old-fashioned.

Job Description:

You must create a logo using the information given in this brief. They would prefer a mascot logo that uses the color black. The logo will be embroidered on uniforms. Take into account the company's values and preferences, and make sure it will work for the planned use-cases.

Step 1: The Brief

I carefully reviewed the company and job description, identifying key terms that best reflect the brand's values. The words that stood out to me were:
- American
- Soft Drinks
- College
- Fame
- Old Fashioned
Additionally, the description provided important design elements:
- Mascot Logo
- Uniform Embroidery
- Black
To keep the logo simple yet meaningful, I incorporated as many of these keywords as possible, ensuring each one contributed to capturing the essence of the brand.
The words I ended up focusing on were:
- Soft Drink
- Old-Fashioned
- College
Now it was time to move on to the next step in the design process.

Step 2: Initial Logo Concept

Since the design called for a mascot logo, I envisioned an unrealistic, cartoon-like face for the mascot. After conducting thorough research, I began sketching and quickly arrived at a design that felt like the perfect final logo.
Next, I photographed the sketch and transitioned to Adobe Illustrator to refine and finalize the design.

Step 3: Finalizing the Logo Design

First, I traced my sketch to create a proper mascot icon for the logo. Once satisfied with the mascot, I moved on to the text. I developed four different logo concepts for the text, carefully evaluating each one before finalizing the best option. Following this, I designed the wordmark version of the logo, ensuring it was suitable for patterns and prints, and I was pleased with how it turned out.
Now, it was time to create the Brand Guidelines!

Step 4: Brand Guidelines

I created a comprehensive document that clearly outlined all the brand style guidelines, including logo variations and their proper usage. This document also detailed the color palette, typography, and imagery to be used, ensuring consistency across all brand materials. Additionally, it provided clear instructions on how to maintain the brand's visual identity, along with other valuable information about the brand's voice and tone. This guide serves as a definitive resource for maintaining brand integrity in all communications and applications.
This logo design project was my first attempt at creating a mascot-style logo, and I'm thrilled with the pleasing results. The process challenged my creativity and skills, pushing me to explore new design techniques. Seeing the final logo come together so successfully has been incredibly rewarding and has given me the confidence to tackle more complex projects in the future.
