Empowering stories that blend cultural authenticity with universal themes of justice, identity, and resilience.
Project Overview.
This is a groundbreaking storytelling project (graphic novel and expanded universe) is centered around a team of Latina superheroes, with a focus on Jalisco—a blade-wielding folkloric dancer from Guadalajara who uses her culture as her weapon. This expansive narrative explores themes of femicide, family legacy, culture and territory, and resistance against systemic oppression, offering a culturally rich and emotionally resonant story for diverse audiences. This project needed me to work polishing engaging narratives, developing relatable characters, and ensuring cultural authenticity and storytelling.
Client Goals.
The client asked me to polish the already engaging, culturally relevant, and impactful narrative on the books that amplifies underrepresented voices while addressing critical social issues through the lens of Latina heritage (including Mexican, Cuban and Chicano). This to create a marketable, culturally relevant content that appeals to diverse audiences. By addressing pressing social issues through the lens of Latina heritage, and considering its potential to resonate with readers across demographics. This series offers a unique selling point: a fresh perspective on superhero narratives combined with authentic cultural representation. They required me to align the content with growing industry demands for inclusive storytelling and has strong commercial viability.
