To become a subtitler at Dicentia Studios, I had to do some tests to get their certification. I had done some subtitling at the university I went to, but it was still more challenging than I thought it would be.
Problem & Solution 🤝
One of the biggest problems I encountered was that I started to translate word for word, not looking at the bigger picture. Which made the translations feel translated and not natural.
The solution for me was to download the translations and put them in a separate word document. I looked at the text for what it was and could see where I got something wrong.

Process 🛣
The process was very smooth since I had to finish a course. Each week I got a new genre of movie or tv-series to translate and subtitle. Because of this, I encountered and solved different problems every week. Sometimes the clip contained terms I had never heard of before. Other times I got a kids' show, and I had to work with a limited amount of words.
Results 🎁
During this project, I learned how to give information with a limited amount of words. I also learned how important it is to research the subject and how to make sure I use new words correctly.
