H1: How to Build Confidence and Self-Esteem in One Simple Move It’s not always easy being a woman.
We’re expected to do it all, have it all, and be everything to everyone…but so often, in our fight to get there, we end up losing ourselves.
In the whirlwind of day to day tasks and errands, it’s all too easy to put yourself last, and in doing so, forget how to be you.
If you are looking to reclaim your mojo, I’m here to tell you there’s a surprisingly simple way to build confidence: start a hobby.
Here, we’ll explore how hobbies help cultivate self-worth, resilience and self-confidence for women in a world full of expectations and comparisons.
H2: Why hobbies are an important way to build confidence Hobbies can push you to try something new, to learn and grow, and to meet new people. They have even been shown to increase happiness and well-being. Their unique power to help build self-confidence in women makes them a vital tool for making changes in your life.
H3: Sense of Achievement Allow yourself, for one moment, to imagine how it would feel to hold in your hands, a brand new, perfectly glazed bowl. You threw it, fired it, glazed it, and now it’s real and here in the world.
You’ve done that. You.
Maybe it’s a new skill, maybe you’ve rekindled an old love, but you’ve learned and you’ve achieved.
You return home, still glowing from the dopamine rush, and you think to yourself “well if I can do that, what else can I do?”
And you’re ready to take on the world.
H3: Stress Relief and Mental-Wellbeing We all know what it’s like to lie awake at night, mind churning over all the roadblocks from today and the to-do lists for tomorrow.
In a world where our brains are constantly “on”, give yours a chance to switch off from work and onto something new.
Allowing yourself to become absorbed by something you enjoy is a uniquely powerful stress reliever and can improve your long-term wellbeing.
H3: Social Connection Our lives are increasingly lived online. When you can connect with friends from the comfort of your own sofa, we can easily begin to neglect real world connection.
We humans are social creatures. We need contact with other humans.
Getting involved in hobbies can give you the opportunity to connect with like minded people. And the best part is that the conversation is already taken care of!
H2: Choosing the Right Hobby to Boost Confidence So which hobby is right for you?
If nothing springs to mind immediately, that’s okay! Here are a few factors you might consider.
Try to find a hobby that’ll take you fully away from the stresses of your day-to-day life, and find something to tickle a different part of your brain.
H3: Convenience Let’s be honest- we’re busy people and there are going to be practical constraints.
It might be that you are guided by what’s available locally, or the time and money you can dedicate to it.
H3: Do What You Love Ultimately, you have to pick something you really enjoy.
Don’t worry about being good at it. Just pick something that will get you excited to get started.
H2: Breaking Down Barriers: Starting a New Hobby as a Woman The best intentions in the world can be scuppered by that niggling voice in our heads spouting all the reasons NOT to try something.
If you are looking for how to build confidence and self-esteem, it’s a voice you’ve got to learn to ignore.
H3: Ditch the Guilt It’s easy to feel guilty for taking time for yourself. Redefine “me time” as essential, not optional.
Schedule it into your week as a non-negotiable appointment, just as you might if you were at work. Make sure everyone in your household knows the deal and gets on board.
And if you really can’t ditch the guilt, think of it this way: time spent nurturing your own needs now, means you’ll be able to give your best self to others later.
H3: Embrace Imperfection Everyone fails.
That’s the truth of it! Everyone in the room will have been a beginner once. They know how it feels to be in your shoes.
Trust that noone is here to judge. Give yourself permission to fail, and know that each time you do, you’ll grow and improve a little, until one day you’ll look back at how far you’ve come with pride and satisfaction.
H3: Be Kind to Yourself Allow yourself to feel joy! Bask in your achievements! Boast about them to others!
Building self-confidence, for women, can often just come from telling yourself how great you are and learning to believe it.
Believe that you can do anything, instead of telling yourself you can’t.
H2: How to Start Your Hobby Journey Today
H3: Set Aside Time If you’re joining a club this might be easy, as the date and time is decided for you, but even if it’s on your own time, make sure you time box a period to work on it.
Don’t wait for “free time” to come to you. Don’t feel you have to finish the chores first. Make this a priority.
H3: Be Patient Don’t expect to be amazing from the off. You wouldn’t put that expectation on anyone else, so why place it on yourself?
Make it low pressure, and low stakes. Just for fun.
It’s even possible you might have to try a few different things before you find what works for you. Don’t be afraid to dip a toe in. You will find something you love, even if it takes some trial and error.
H3: Join a Group It might be an in-person group, like a sports club, a class or a casual knit-and-natter type of group.
If there’s nothing in person, why not look online? Try joining a Facebook group for people doing the same as you. Find a virtual community to inspire you and support you.
H3: Celebrate Small Wins Don’t be afraid to brag! Post it all online and tell all of your friends and family about even the tiniest successes (and stop worrying that you're bothering people). They’ll love to celebrate alongside you.
One of the best ways to build self-confidence is to allow others to share in your joy and reinforce what you already know about yourself- you’re fantastic.
You deserve to feel amazing.
H2: Ready to Feel Like You Again? Why not join a community of like-minded women making positive steps forward in their lives?
