Coding courses teach syntax. A first dev job is tickets, code reviews, stand-ups, deploys and on-call. With AI writing more of the code, those skills matter more, not less. The Real Repo teaches them, under one line: AI writes code. You ship products.
The brand
An [R] mark in code brackets, violet on a dark night background, with one warm highlight colour. Every thumbnail follows the same illustrated layout, but each video gets its own colour, so the feed looks consistent and every video is still easy to tell apart.
The videos
Faceless explainers of 30 to 60 seconds, posted every day on YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, X and LinkedIn. They cover five topics: job skills, inside a real codebase, shipping with AI, when things break, and getting hired.
10 shorts published since 30 October
9 more in production and 33 ideas queued
One calm style: an animated world the camera glides through, and captions that light up as I speak
How a short gets made
I write each script as talking points and record the voiceover in my own words, so it doesn't sound read. The animation and captions are built in code around that recording, and every video gets a thumbnail in the house style. I check each one on a phone-sized preview before it goes out.
To keep up a daily schedule, I built a small Next.js app that tracks every video from idea to published, with a recorder and teleprompter built in.
The plan
Build the audience first, then open the product to it.
Audience (now): one short a day on every platform.
Website and waitlist (live):therealrepo.com is up and collecting sign-ups.
Product (building): a computer in the browser where you join a simulated company and do the job, with team chat, tickets, a real VS Code, repos, and AI teammates who review your pull requests. Four companies, from a startup to an enterprise.
Launch (next): open it to the waitlist.
A first look at the product
Each simulated company gets its own laptop in the browser. Here's Streak, the startup: a ticket in progress, the code for it, the tech lead's review in team chat, and today's stand-up on the calendar.
Follow along: therealrepo.com and @the_real_repo on YouTube, Instagram and X.
