Problem Statement

Axio is an innovative mobile app that offers a powerful combination of Personal Finance Management (PFM) and Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services. Initially known for providing Amazon Pay Later in India, Axio has evolved into a comprehensive financial management solution. Users can effortlessly track expenses, set budgets, and achieve financial goals through its intuitive PFM feature. Additionally, Axio's flexible BNPL service enables users to make purchases with manageable installments. The app goes the extra mile by collaborating with renowned brands to offer exclusive discounts, making it a rewarding financial tool. With a focus on user experience, this case study explores my role in designing Axio's app from scratch.

Solution

Collaborating with stakeholders, PMs, designers, and the marketing team, I merged PFM capabilities from the acquired Walnut app with our platform. Through user feedback analysis and usability testing, we prioritized key features for a cohesive design. The result was an intuitive interface, streamlined user flows, and a revamped catalogue module, offering a seamless experience for managing finances and utilizing the BNPL service, enriched with exclusive brand discounts.

Solution

I followed a user-centered process: empathizing, defining goals, ideating solutions, prototyping interfaces, and rigorous testing. This iterative approach ensured a seamless and innovative design for Axio.

Brain Storming Sessions

I conducted brainstorming sessions with stakeholders, designers, and product managers to gather diverse perspectives and ideas. These sessions allowed us to explore innovative approaches to integrate PFM seamlessly into the existing app, making it user-friendly and visually appealing.

User Research

I conducted supervised user research and received feedback from users that we incorporated into user personas.

Feature Prioritization

The feature prioritization exercise allowed us to stay focused on addressing users' core pain points while considering Axio's business goals. It served as a guiding framework throughout the design process, ensuring that our efforts were aligned with creating a cohesive and user-friendly financial management platform.
By combining the collaborative energy from brainstorming sessions, industry knowledge from benchmarking, and user insights from research, we laid a strong foundation for the redesign. The feature prioritization became the cornerstone of our design decisions, leading to an app that not only met users' expectations but also exceeded them, positioning Axio as a leading financial management app in the market.

Information Architecture

In this section, I organized Axio's content and features to create an intuitive and user-friendly structure, ensuring that users can easily navigate through the app, access PFM tools, explore BNPL options, and discover exciting discounts from partner brands.

Wireframes & Prototypes

After conceptualizing the design ideas, I translated them into an interactive low-fidelity digital prototype. This prototype served as a crucial bridge between the ideation phase and the final design. Subsequently, I conducted usability testing with five potential users, gathering valuable feedback to refine and enhance the wireframe's user experience. The iterative process ensured that the app's navigation, layout, and functionality aligned perfectly with users' needs and preferences.

Usability Study

As a team, we conducted a user testing session on twenty participants. I then took the responses through a card-sorting exercise to find common themes amongst the participants.

Product Success

10 million downloads on PlayStore4-star plus rating. Users praised the intuitive interface, seamless integration of PFM and BNPL services, and exclusive discounts. The app's cohesive brand personality resonated strongly, making Axio a trusted financial companion. The overwhelmingly positive feedback positioned Axio as a leading financial app, empowering users to effortlessly manage their finances and achieve their goals.

What I Learned

Throughout the Axio project, I learned to prioritize user needs, make data-driven decisions, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and embrace an iterative design process. Balancing functionality with aesthetics and focusing on brand identity enriched the user experience. Adapting to evolving requirements further honed my problem-solving skills, contributing to my growth as a Product designer.
