Technical Talent Market Mapping — Research, Evaluation & Strategic Recommendations
Representative work sample / methodology sample
This sample presents the research approach and representative scope behind my Technical Talent Mapping Sprint. It is a methodology demonstration, not a completed client case study. The deliverables below describe an engagement's proposed outputs; this sample does not contain a completed prospect list or claim client results.
The challenge
Difficult technical searches often begin with an ambiguous question: who actually fits, where are they, what evidence matters, and what does the available market tell us about the search?
My approach turns those questions into structured research and decision support. The aim is to give the hiring team a clear basis for deciding where to focus, with evidence and reasoning behind the recommendation.
The five-step process
Define the decision criteria Translate stakeholder requirements into researchable attributes: capabilities, relevant experience, technical environment, and company context. Agree on the evidence that would indicate a strong fit.
Research the market Map relevant companies, talent pools, and adjacent backgrounds. Gather qualitative evidence from public professional sources, company information, and technical work where available.
Evaluate individual options Research each prospect against the criteria and document the fit rationale. Distinguish evidence of relevant experience from assumptions that still need validation.
Identify patterns, signals, gaps, and constraints Compare the individual findings to understand recurring strengths, limited talent pools, missing evidence, and potential constraints on the search.
Recommend a direction Synthesize the research into a concise recommendation: which talent pools to prioritize, how to position the opportunity, and where sourcing and outreach should focus.
Representative deliverables
• Market map for one specialized technical search • 15–20 individually researched prospects • Written fit rationale for each prospect • Market and competitive observations • Identification of patterns and talent-market constraints • Recommended sourcing and outreach direction • Concise decision-ready findings for the hiring team
Why this work matters
The value is creating a structured way to make a decision when the answer is not obvious. Stakeholder requirements, market research, qualitative evidence, comparative evaluation, and judgment come together in an actionable recommendation.
The method transfers
The same underlying method can be applied beyond talent mapping: define criteria, research the landscape, compare options, synthesize stakeholder input, and recommend a direction. It can support brand and naming decisions by making the reasoning behind a preferred option clear.
