The 10 Best Things To Do in Valencia: Travel Blog to Inspire

Valencia is such a beautiful city, and I’ve had the privilege of visiting it before while I lived in Spain. During our recent road trip, I was so excited to return with Liam and explore some more of this beautiful city! If you are planning a trip, whether you have one day, a weekend or a whole week, read on for 10 things to do in Valencia! We only spent one day in Valencia, but we managed to get loads done and see plenty of the sights, as most things are within walking distance.

To save yourself time and energy, make sure you plan your route ahead of time to save yourself going back on yourself. As Valencia is a busy city, we decided not to take the van into the city centre. There are a few places on park4night, but the reviews weren’t the best, so we stayed here and got the metro into town.

Exploring the City of Arts and Sciences can mean one of two things. You can go inside the huge complex, and enjoy visiting the Hemisfèric, an IMAX cinema, and the Oceanogràfic museum. Alternatively, you can stay outside and simply enjoy the amazing architecture! With avant-garde architecture, bright blossoming flowers and nature around every corner, exploring this area can be just as impressive from the outside! (and much cheaper.)

This imposing gothic-style tower is a must-see. The towers are part of the old city walls, and for only 2 euros, you can explore the walls, towers and castle. Climb the steps right to the top for some beautiful views of the city, or use the 14th-century architecture as a backdrop for some nice photos of you and your fellow travellers.

A must-visit for aficionados of history and architecture, the Valencia Cathedral stands tall with its awe-inspiring design. Marvel at the intricate details and, for panoramic views, ascend the Miguelete Bell Tower. We chose not to go inside and simply enjoyed the architecture. However, you’ll want to check out the interior if you want to see the revered ‘Holy Grail”. Any Monty Python fans?

For the food lovers among you, the Mercado Central is a spot you don’t want to miss. One of Europe’s largest fresh produce markets, it’s a haven for foodies. A lot of vendors will offer samples of local delicacies too.

Valencia has it all; unlike Barcelona, Valencia is a large, bustling city with a beach! For us, this is ideal. So, why not grab some lunch from the central market and head to Malvarrosa Beach for a picnic on the sand? If you need a break from the busy city streets, this is the perfect place to go for some peace.

Valencia’s commitment to green spaces is clear to see when you visit the Turia Riverbed Park. A leisurely stroll or bike ride through this incredible green space introduces you to gardens, playgrounds, and iconic landmarks like the whimsical Gulliver Park. This park is significant, and you can easily spend a few hours exploring, sunbathing or doing activities.

If you prefer to head out without a plan and stroll the streets looking for hidden gems and snapshots of local life unfolding, Barrio del Carmen is the perfect place. There is also a ton of fantastic graffiti, with pieces of art often covering entire buildings. There are also plenty of independent little shops to explore. So, if you fancy more of a loosy goosey day in Valencia, simply put on some comfortable walking shoes and walk! (Just don’t forget where you’ve parked.)

Delve into the artistic legacy of Valencia’s ceramics at the Museo Nacional de Cerámica González Martí. Immerse yourself in the city’s cultural narrative as you explore the exquisite collection housed within a beautiful palace setting. There is also a cute wine bar right opposite if you fancy sitting outside and spending some extra time marvelling at the architecture.

Valencia is the birthplace of paella, so if you’re going to eat it anywhere in Spain, why not try it here? So many restaurants serve it in their own way and with local ingredients. So make sure you try the flavours that define this region.

As the sun sets, Valencia transforms into something totally new. Take an evening stroll along the modernist architecture of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, soaking in the city’s illuminated beauty. We enjoyed the view of Valencia from our overnight camping spot at an Avacardo farm!
