The problem

Modern teams drown in their own tooling. Plans live in one app, docs in another, tasks in a third, and the context that ties them together lives in threads nobody can find. The result is coordination overhead — status meetings, re-explaining, chasing — that quietly eats the time meant for actually shipping.

Who it’s for & business

Ambitious product, engineering, marketing, and ops teams who want to move faster without adding headcount. It’s a classic SaaS ladder — a free Starter, a $24/user Team tier with Autopilot workflows, and an Enterprise tier with SSO and SOC 2 — and because the product acts on company data, it’s secure by default: SSO, granular permissions, and data that never trains public models.

The product

Vela is one intelligent surface where plans, docs, tasks, and context live together. Autopilot delegates entire multi-step workflows and reports back when it’s done; universal search answers across everything with the source attached; living documents update themselves as decisions change; and when you approve a plan, Vela executes it — creating tasks, assigning owners, and following up. The workspace home leads with outcomes: tasks automated, hours saved, accuracy, and a live throughput chart.

The design system

I designed the full arc — wireframe → prototype → high-fidelity — plus the marketing site that sells it. The visual system is deliberately restrained: a near-monochrome dark palette, one electric-indigo accent, generous type, and calm, purposeful motion. For an AI-heavy product, that restraint is the point: the interface has to feel trustworthy and in-control, not busy or magical.

Key decisions

“Alongside you,” not “instead of you”: a human approval gate sits in front of every action Vela takes. Show the work — sources, steps, and a visible “Vela is drafting…” state — so delegation is legible and earns trust. Keep the AI ambient and status-driven rather than a chat box you interrogate. And lead the whole story with measurable outcomes (312h, 4.2×, 99.4%) instead of model talk.

Reflection

For autonomous software, trust is the product. The design job wasn’t to make the AI look clever — it was to make delegation feel safe: always visible, always reversible, and always yours to approve.
