This is a portfolio-safe version of a real-world protest poster used in Brooklyn, NY.
In the original flyer, local officials responsible for luxury development were named explicitly.
For Contra, their names have been redacted to center the community’s voice and systemic critique, not just individual blame.
The Goal of the Project
To expose the connection between NYC councilmembers and real estate-backed campaign contributions, and to raise public awareness about how these donations influence local policies driving gentrification and displacement.
👥 Who It Was For
Created for a grassroots campaign led by housing justice organizers in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The flyer supported door-to-door canvassing and online organizing efforts.
🛠️ Tools Used
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Research compiled in Google Docs and Airtable
📈 Impact or Outcome
The flyer was shared in physical and digital formats across multiple Brooklyn neighborhoods. It helped residents draw a direct link between money in politics and rising rents—and sparked conversations at town halls and protests about holding elected officials accountable.
