Over past several years i created and also assessed several technical architectures and website for requirements such as performance optimization or from scratch development that our enterprise clients had. This case study gives an overview of one such work.

The requirement was to mainly optimize performance of a B2B ordering site of a customer, however as additional requirement we were also asked to evaluate non functional aspects of application including overall cost for the application for optimization and provide our assessment. This required archtiecture assessment as well as recommendations for performance improvement.

Assessment resulted in short term and long term recommendations. Short term recommendations included example recommendations such as : 1. Optimization of client side caching. Certain entities were not cached or not cached for optimal duration considering business scenario. 2. Page loads were blocked for lot of data received asynchronously that was not necessary during page load. And many more such changes. Longer term recommendations included 1. Moving to .NET core to optimize on cost 2. Changes to service contracts and database schema etc. Overall short term changes resulted in some quick wins and making page loads faster building customer confidence in recommendation. Further changes on long term recommendations were put on roadmap.
