Fashion trends have been going on all over social media platforms these days. We all know that different aesthetics, such as Old Money, Coquette, Dark and Light Academia, Vintage, y2k, Soft Girl, etc. are so trendy.
Surely, there is nothing wrong with being an outfit repeater. But then, let’s be real. Are you tired of wearing the same outfits over and over again, and you want to upgrade your wardrobe without buying everything again and changing it entirely? Are you sick of posting the same OOTDs every one or two weeks? Do you also want to do the “Hi, I’m Shelly Duval” trend on TikTok without wearing the same thing? Here’s how!

1. Own the basics

Make sure your wardrobe contains the timeless basics–the ones that we all need, such as a basic t-shirt, tank top, jeans, trousers, etc. You do not need to own the basics in every color. In fact, owning basics in 5 colors that you usually wear is enough. You do not have to buy the same shirt in 10 different colors just because “it looks good” because at the end of the day, you will not wear all of them.

2. Get rid of certain pieces

When you’re trying out your clothes, looking for a certain OOTD, and you see that piece of clothing that you know you will never wear because of a few reasons, such as it doesn’t compliment you or you’re not comfortable with it, get rid of it. No, the time that “I might wear it someday” will not come when you don’t feel like it in the first place. So, GET RID OF IT. Do not let your closet be full of clothes that you will not wear. Make space for those pieces that you love and will actually wear. Declutter your wardrobe!

3. Be creative and know your style

Not wearing the same outfit does not mean not wearing the same pieces. You can wear the same piece and still have a different look, vibe, and aesthetic completely. Learn to style. Just try and try until you find the perfect outfit of the day. You can wear the same shirt on Friday that you wore on Wednesday, but still look different by styling it — maybe, on Wednesday, you looked classy. And on Friday, you looked artsy. And don’t forget the final touch: accessorize. Master the power of mix-and-match!

4. Take pictures of your outfits

Sure, you want to showcase your gorgeous OOTDs by taking pictures and posting them on your social media accounts, but it is also important to note that these pictures can also help you upgrade your wardrobe and style. Look at your past outfits and craft something out of them! What’s your usual style? What’s the vibe and energy that you usually radiate? Treat your OOTD album as a scrapbook where you can check the outfits you wore. Doing so will help you notice the “flaws” or how you can make it look better.

5. Be timeless!

Do not hop into every trend you see. If you do, stop that. We do not want those micro-trends here. Those micro-trends just last for a few months, then all of the sudden, people will be like: Ew. What happened to the skinny jeans or early 2000s, paired with ballet flats or Louboutin heels? You get “cancelled” if you wear them in 2024. A bit crazy and funny, isn’t it? What used to be a trend is now a reason for getting cancelled. That is why it is significant to be timeless and own your style. Do not be one of those people who are copy and pasted, and simply duplicates of other people.
Fashion is broad and, let’s have a reality check: expensive. It is fun to buy new pieces of clothing and put them on, not until your wallet or card cries because you’re now broke by upgrading your wardrobe from time to time, just because there’s a new trend that seems to be fun to hop into. And that is a mistake that most people make. Do not be one of those people.
