THE DATA
The data is an AirBnB data that has already been cleaned and made available to the public by Maven Analytics. You can find the data here: AirBnB Listings.
In this project, I focused on answering/providing insights to the following questions from the data:
- Which cities have the highest and lowest listings?
- What are the most expensive and least expensive cities?
- Which cities have poor response time?
- What is the most popular neighbourhood?
- Who is the host with the most listings?
INSIGHTS
From the analysis carried out, I was able to gain these insights:
- City with the highest listing was Paris with 64522 listings and the City with the lowest listing was Hong Kong with 7068 listings.
- Most expensive and least expensive cities are Cape Town and Rome, respectively.
- Paris and Sydney are the cities with listings that have poor response time.
- I Centro Storico in Rome was the most popular neighbourhood as it had the highest number of listings.
- Host with the most listings was the host with id: 291007369 with a total number of 627 listings.
ANALYSIS
Queries used to obtain these insights and the results will be shown below each of the business question. I commented above each query to enable anyone going through my queries have and easy understanding and follow through.
First business question: Which cities have the highest and lowest listings?
As shown above, Paris was the city with the highest number of listings with 64522 listings in the city while Hong Kong had 7068 listings making it the city with the lowest number of listings.
The second business question: What are the most expensive and least expensive cities?
I needed to find the average price of listings in the ten (10) cities. Cape Town and Rome were the most expensive and least expensive cities, respectively.
From the results above, it can be inferred that, Paris emerged as the second least expensive city because it has the highest number of listings.
The third business question: Which cities have poor response time?
The query below gave me the cities that have listings with poor response time. These cities are Paris and Sydney.
Fourth business question: What is the most popular neighbourhood?
I Centro Storico was the most popular neighbourhood. It was the neighbourhood with the highest number of listings and is located in the city of Rome.
For the final business question: Who is the host with the most listings?
id: 291007369 was the host with the most listings and this host was in the city of Paris and had a total number of 627 listings.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Cities with fewer listings were found to be among the most expensive cities amongst all the cities. Also, cities that had so many listings e.g. Paris had very poor response time.
