Maintaining and Extending Shopify Stores for DTC Brands

Overview

Since September 2023 I've been a frontend developer at Grain Group, a US performance marketing agency. On the Shopify side, I look after storefronts for several direct-to-consumer brands, including a tequila brand, a tequila soda line, an alkaline water brand and a sports performance brand. The stores were already live. My job is to keep them working and add what the brand and the agency's media team need next.

What the work looks like

Most of it is a mix of three things. Bug fixes when something on the storefront stops working. Landing pages for the campaigns the agency runs. And new features when the theme can't do what the brand wants.

New features for a sports performance store

The sports brand got most of the feature work. Its catalogue has many products in several colors, so I built color switching, which lets shoppers change a product's color from its swatches, and filter by color on collection pages, so they can narrow the catalogue to the colors they want.

Upgrading an outdated theme

The same store was running on an old release of its theme. I updated it to the latest version and brought the custom work across, so the store kept its features on a current, supported theme.

About the stores

These stores belong to agency clients, so brand names, links and screenshots aren't public. I'm happy to share them if you get in touch.
