Nobody should want something for you more than you want it for yourself. Seeing people post their 2025 goals/resolutions has been great. Inspired by the growth people have planned for themselves. And while a lot of things will and should play a part in helping you achieve them, one trap you cannot fall into is thinking that whoever you ask to hold you accountable should be more concerned with you achieving your goals than you are. Pursuit is the evidence of desire! What you #pursue is an indicator of where your #desire lies. It is not practical to say we desire career growth yet you are still stuck in the same jobs for years, and not seeking for new one. A key takeaway for me is that we do not have only one true work identity; rather, our working identity consists of many possible career selves and stories. Since we are many selves, changing is not about swapping one identity for another but rather a transition process in which we reconfigure the full set of possibilities. Real life case studies bring this book to life and offer an inspirational approach to career reinvention. “Designing Your Life” by Burnett and Evans. A key takeaway for me is that in order to design the career we want, we need to move away from thinking and start building the career we want. They also provide five mindsets to help do this: curiosity, bias to action, reframing, awareness, and radical collaboration. The book is a practical approach based on Design Thinking. “The Squiggly Career” by Tupper and Ellis. I am a big fan of the practical advice Helen and Sarah give to help us navigate and create the careers we want. This book is a great place to start and includes many practical exercises. 3 things which will destroy your career fulfilment 👇 1) The Arrival Fallacy: assuming that once you achieve X payrise or promotion, then you’ll be satisfied and happy. ⚡️The truth is, we just shift the goalposts and start chasing the next thing. 2) Perfectionism: the pointless pursuit of perfect which makes you chronically dissatisfied. ⚡️The truth is, there’s no humanity or grace in perfectionism, only fruitless frustration. 3) Comparisonitis: believing that we have to keep up with an external metric of success, as personified by our peers, or our social media. ⚡️The truth is, you have your own unique definition of career success, which will change everything.
