Often referred to as the “heart of Istanbul”, Taksim captures the hearts of travellers from all around the world. In between the hustle and bustle of the busy streets, you can find the trendiest street art in the form of graffiti. As well as the best Turkish delight you will ever get your hands on.
As you are trying to pack all the travel that you can into a small space of time you have travelling Turkey, there are a few things that need to be ticked off your bucket list.
This article will take you through the top three activities to do as you find yourself roaming in the streets of Taksim, Istanbul.

1.) Exploring the history

You shouldn’t have to walk more than a few steps on the cobblestone pathways to be confronted with the beautiful architecture and historical buildings in Taksim.
If you are feeling like royalty, the first stop you should be making on your travels should be to Dolmabahce Palace. The Istanbul Insider (2022) states that the palace was commissioned to be built in 1843. Labelled as one of the biggest palaces in Turkey, this luxurious and opulent piece of history is a sight to see. Boasting 285 rooms, 44 halls, 68 toilets and 6 baths.
The next location stop suggestion is the Galata Tower. The Galata Tower does just that, towers over the city of Istanbul. This historical piece of architecture was originally used as a watch tower for the military. These days the tower is more known for the beautiful lights that it reflects at night. This tower can also be climbed to gain access to a breathtaking 360-degree view of Istanbul.

2.) Artsy Streets

Picture this, While you are admiring the history and architecture that dates back hundreds of years, you are confronted with a new form of creative, street art. Normal people and artists by profession come together to express themselves through art in the streets of Istanbul. These beautiful creations are a must-see. Pictures of this street art will definitely put a pop on your Instagram profile with all the colours.

3.) Food, food and more food!

After all of your exploring, food will be the only thing on your mind. Thank goodness in Taksim, Istanbul there are so many different types of foods. From restaurants to food stalls, there is no shortage of supply. You might also be interested in trying some traditional Turkish cuisine. The Turkish delight is definitely recommended!
