Al-Ahly Sports Club, often just called Al-Ahly Club, is a famous sports club from Egypt. It is located in Cairo and plays in the Egyptian Premier League. It’s one of the few clubs in the world that has never been moved down to a lower division, and it's the only club in Egypt with this record, along with Zamalek Club.
Al-Ahly Club was started on April 24, 1907. The club’s first board was led by an Englishman named Michael Innes. In 1909, the club built its first football stadium, called Al-Hosh. Over time, this stadium was updated and is now known as Mukhtar Al-Tetsh Stadium. The club’s first football team was formed in 1911. By 1916, Al-Ahly Club had added four sports: football, tennis, billiards, and gymnastics.
Locally, Al-Ahly has won the Egyptian Premier League 44 times, with its most recent win in 2024. It has also won the Egypt Cup 39 times, with the last victory in 2022.
Al-Ahly has a fierce rivalry with Zamalek Club. Their matches are known as the "Cairo Derby" or "the summit match."
Al-Ahly Club is known for winning many championships. It has won 25 continental titles, making it the second-most successful club in the world in terms of continental championships, after Real Madrid. Al-Ahly has 152 total championships, which makes it one of the most decorated clubs globally. In the Arab world, Al-Ahly holds the record with 121 official local and continental titles recognized by FIFA.
Locally, Al-Ahly has won the Egyptian Premier League 44 times, with its most recent win in 2024. It has also won the Egypt Cup 39 times, with the last victory in 2022.
Additionally, the club has secured the Egyptian Super Cup 14 times, the Cairo Region League 15 times, the Sultan Hussein Cup 7 times, the United Arab Republic Cup once, and the Egyptian Federation Cup once.
In Africa, Al-Ahly has been very successful, winning the African Champions League 12 times, with the most recent win in 2024. This victory allowed the club to qualify for the Club World Cup for the tenth time. They have also won the African Super Cup 8 times, the African Confederation Cup once, the African Cup Winners' Cup 4 times, and the Afro-Asian Club Cup once.
In Arab competitions, Al-Ahly has won the Arab Club Champions Cup once, the Arab Cup Winners' Cup once, and the Arab Super Cup twice.
The club holds records for the most wins in several competitions, including the Egyptian Premier League and the African Champions League.
Fans of Al-Ahly have given the club several nicknames such as the Red Devils, the Red Giant, the Red Castle, and the National Club. In 2000, the Confederation of African Football named Al-Ahly the best African club of the twentieth century. The club was also recognized as the best in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics in June 2006 and July 2007. Al-Ahly has been named the best African club several times, including in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2023. In 2020, it won the Globe Soccer Award for the most decorated club in the Middle East and earned an ISO 9001:2015 certification in 2021.
Many other clubs in the region have been named after Al-Ahly, including teams in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, and Oman.

It also performs well globally in squash. Currently, Al-Ahly plays its matches at Al-Salam Stadium, which has a capacity of about 25,000 spectators.
