Anima, an agency specializing in biomimicry, organizes the annual Out of the Lab competition to showcase the field’s most innovative projects.
My mission was to craft a visual narrative that is both rigorous and inspiring, presenting the winners while making each project understandable to the scientific community and international professionals.
The video highlights five bio-inspired innovations (REEcover, ArtSilk, Nanoscale Labs, Melwear, and Xatoms) in a visual triptych, combining poetic interpretation with scientific representations, spanning vastly different biological scales.
The visual language aims as much to evoke as to explain the science behind each biomimetic innovation, to make complex biotechnologies both understandable and emotionally resonant.
For the inspirational visuals, I transformed the raw project descriptions into poetic concepts, then into realistic imagery.
A cloud of pollution reveals rare-earth nuggets - REECOVER
A protective bubble unfolds in passing light - MELWEAR
Iridescent particles condense into soft matter - NANOSCALE LABS
For the diagrams, I surveyed existing scientific representations before creating and animating each schema, resulting in a clear, cohesive, and visually varied ensemble.
A genetically modified spider silk protein - ARTSILK
Self-assembly of nanoparticles - NANOSCALE LABS
Rare-earth elements - REECOVER
The film strengthened the visibility of the selected projects and contributed to Anima’s positioning, extending its reach across professional networks and international events.
Let’s bring your research and innovation to life!
