Karta Companion, iOS residence card app concept

Karta Companion is a self-initiated iOS concept I designed in September 2026. It guides foreign workers in Wrocław through applying for a residence and work permit, in English and Polish. It hasn't shipped, has no client, and isn't connected to DUW or any government office. Adaeze, the applicant in the screens, is a fictional persona.

Wrocław's regional office, DUW, has been slow for years. Official figures put the average wait for a decision issued in 2022 at over 7 months, and the Supreme Audit Office counted almost 61,000 cases waiting at the end of 2024. Since 27 April 2026, applications go only through MOS, an online system in Polish that goes quiet once you've sent your application.

I checked every legal statement against a primary source before drawing anything. Three parts of my own brief turned out to be wrong.

Employees don't need a separate health insurance document. Cover comes with the job by law, so only a contract for specific work adds one.

Paper filing is gone. MOS is the only route.

MOS doesn't report case status, so the app doesn't pretend to track it.

Welcome. It asks where you are first, because MOS doesn't accept applications filed from abroad.

Your situation. Region, permit type and contract type, and only one contract type adds a document.

Your documents. Six rows, each with its Polish name from MOS. A second state shows when you're waiting on your employer, in navy with a clock rather than red, because the delay isn't your fault.

Your appointment. There's nothing to book. The office sets the date, and the app keeps it with a list of what to bring.

I measured every text colour pairing against WCAG 2.1 (navy on white is 16.48 to 1). Touch targets are at least 44pt, and colour never carries meaning on its own.
