three months ago, while I was in the middle of a chemical peel procedure for one of our clients. she told me of a woman who lives next door to her and said she was a 50-year-old woman. at first, I wondered why she was telling me about her neighbor and her morning routine till I saw a picture. this woman had dewy and flawless skin. As an expert in this for a couple of years, I had never seen a 60-year-old with skin that good.
my client then asked me, what she could do as someone in her mid 40 to get skin that good. we stared at each other and I told her these 5 tips which has transformed her skin and also her wellness.
tip 1: prioritize small and sustainable changes
you want that skin, that body, that mindset but you find it difficult and impossible. it's because you're trying too hard. you don't need to wake up by 4 am if someone else. you don't need to walk 10 miles every morning because someone else does. you need to wake up by 6 am if that's what your body wants. you need to walk 5 miles if that's what your body can take. the key to building small and sustainable habits is to observe and choose yourself
yes, choose yourself over that IT girl morning routine, your fav YouTuber does. choose yourself over that dieting routine of your fav K-pop star. when you choose yourself, you allow yourself to take action.
and action is where it all begins.
the transformation, the healthy body, the growth mindset, everything falls into place. observe what your body can take and do what you can. when you get going, you can always improve.
you can start small by waking up by 5:30 am, by walking 6-7 miles, by adding a few more skincare items to your routine. there's no pressure, no need to rush. everything would be alright.
tip 2: Focus on nutrition, not deprivation
80% of your health is determined not by your gym routine or your dieting schedule. it all lies in what goes into your stomach. your nutrition. your food and water are very important.
maintaining a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can get you a long way from hitting the gym 7 days a week. we highly recommend trying out the "crowding out approach". the more healthy foods you eat, the less junk food you'll have.
tip3: Taking a digital detox
this one is really big for us because we know the consequences of over-consumption of content. we recommend having a tech-free time every day. yes, every day. it's best to start small.
maybe, 10-15 minutes daily at any quarter of the day you'd like. it could be in the mornings or the evenings but we recommend doing it in the evenings. you can have some "you" time with tea by your side and a book by your hands.
a digital detox is a step that would need a lot of self-discipline but we trust you.
tip4: Sleep
emphasizing sleep was one of the transformative tips, cause you need it girl. eyebags, puffy face, decoloration, most of these are effects of lack of sleep. according to a Southlake dermatology, a key benefit of sufficient sleep is the promotion of collagen production. Collagen is a protein essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. having enough sleep helps the skin repairs itself and maintains a more youthful skin.
tip 5: Practice gratitude and mindfulness
imbedding a gratitude journal every morning can give you mental clarity. it would help you focus on the good and positive, which improves your overall performance. been mindful and grateful for the little things in life keeps the bad energy far away. taking 5 minutes a day, and jotting down the little things you're grateful for could improve your health in many ways.
well, these are the 5 tips that may seem small but change not only your skin health. aesthetic goes beyond looking beautiful on the outside. it also involves mental clarity, happiness, and self-compassion. there's beauty in every part of you.
