Captain HQ: Fintech Platform for Home Repair Claims

Micah Johnson

Micah Johnson

Captain HQ is a fintech platform that manages the full lifecycle of home repair claims, from submission through payment. I joined as the first developer hire and built the core systems that supported $1M in total volume across claims, payments, and contractor workflows. Captain HQ was later acquired.

The Problem

Home repair claims involve a tangled web of homeowners, contractors, insurance, legal compliance, and payment processing. Captain needed a platform that could handle all of it: intake, validation, payments, document generation, and ops tooling. And it needed to work across states with different legal requirements.

What I Built

I designed and built the full platform on Bubble.io with JavaScript Google Cloud Functions handling backend logic, integrations, and processing.

Claims Submission & Mobile App Built the claims submission system and a dedicated mobile app for contractors to submit claims in the field. Homeowners had their own portal to track status and manage their claims.
Payment Processing Integrated both Dwolla and Stripe to handle the payment flows between homeowners, contractors, and the platform. This was the financial backbone supporting $1M in processed volume.
Legal Smart Engine Built a rules engine that checked whether a claim was valid based on state-specific legal requirements. This automated what would otherwise be manual legal review on every submission.
Document Generation Automated the creation of legal and operational documents tied to claims, reducing manual work for the ops team.
HubSpot Integration Connected the platform to HubSpot so the operations and servicing teams had real-time visibility into claim status, contractor activity, and customer communications.
Homeowner Portal A dedicated interface for homeowners to submit claims, upload documentation, track progress, and communicate with the Captain team.
