2HHH Promos – VH1 Hip Hop Honors (2008 Election Year)
Role: Writer · Producer · Performer
Description / Approach:
These promos were created for VH1’s Hip Hop Honors during the 2008 election year. I served as a writer and producer, with the opportunity to also perform on camera. The concept leaned into authentic, street-level energy, which is why we chose to shoot on a real New York City bus rather than a controlled set.
Production was very real—literally. The bus broke down more than once and even pulled off unexpectedly during takes, which forced us to stay flexible and creative in the moment. When Tracy Morgan had to step away mid-shoot (as stars sometimes do), I stepped in to perform his lines for the rider questions. My Tracy Morgan impression wasn’t accurate—but it was funny, and it kept the energy alive on set.
What stands out most is how collaborative and joyful the experience was. We were creating on the fly, problem-solving in real time, and having fun while doing it—something that always shows on screen.
These experiences allowed me to move beyond a single role. While writing is often where the job ends, at VH1 and CNN, I had the opportunity to write, perform, produce, and co-direct—bringing ideas to life from concept to execution.
