I collaborated with award-winning filmmaker Nina Wu to design and build the official website for Sisters: Journey of the Mother Road - a deeply personal indie documentary exploring themes of identity, sisterhood, and healing across generations of Asian American women.

The project required more than just a standard film website. Nina envisioned the site as a visual extension of the film’s tone: expressive, emotional, and layered. We intentionally steered away from the look of traditional film websites and instead took inspiration from 80s/90s magazine layouts, fine art textures, and road trip nostalgia to reflect the film’s raw, intimate, and visually eclectic energy.

Editorial-style layout with layered images and free-form text blocks to mimic analog magazine aesthetics.

Custom animated visuals and hand-drawn overlays adapted from the film’s visual language.

Scroll-based storytelling on a single long page, designed to feel natural, exploratory, and immersive without rigid sections.

Framer build fully optimized for both desktop and mobile, with responsive animation and layered design interactions.

The visual direction evolved mid-process based on the completed film’s mood. We moved away from earlier pitch deck references and explored bold gradients, textured backgrounds, and experimental layouts. I worked closely with client to strike a balance between emotional impact and accessibility, ensuring viewers could navigate the site intuitively while still feeling the heart of the story in every section.
