CS courses have the highest dropout rate in the US, mostly because many students lack adequate guidance and support. Edlyft was created to fix this.
Edlyft is designed to help CS students excel at their courses by giving them access to mentors, a library of educational resources, live classes, and a community.
Edlyft was built especially for people at the beginning of their CS journey, who are having a hard time getting a grasp of concepts, and for those who are much further along in their CS program, and are looking to excel in their final exams, as well as get exposed to lucrative employment opportunities.
On Edlyft, students are able to watch sessions taught by Edlyft mentors. They can join and participate live or watch recordings of these classes whenever it's convenient for them.
Students are also able to schedule time with Edlyft mentors, who walk them through pressing CS issues and help them understand concepts better. These mentors also guide students through the non-academic aspects of being a CS student, such as deciding whether to quit or continue, internship, and job hunting advice.
This was one of the most requested features on Edlyft. Practice problems simulate exam questions, and help students get in the right frame of mind to solve similar problems when they come up in their exams.
Beyond displaying the question and answer, there's also a video of a mentor walking students through the process through which the answer was arrived at.
To ensure consistency across the product and reusability, we had to build a design system, that leveraged some elements from existing design systems, but all came together to form the foundation for Edlyft's interface and experience.
Please note that when this design system was built, Figma had not introduced variables, which is a much better tool for handling color and numeric values.
So far, Edlyft has helped over 100 students graduate successfully, and are currently helping a few thousand students. Most of them attest to how the practice problems helped them tremendously.
Retention rate has grown to over 75%, meaning that most Edlyft users renew their subscription till they graduate. Edlyft has now onboarded students sponsored by Google, Dropbox, and Airbnb.
Recently, the team hit a major milestone with the sale of Edlyft AI tutor to Google.
