The late Oskar Schlemmer was one of the pioneers during the Bauhaus era. This year marks the centenary of his work The Triadic Ballet and to honor him - the Oskar Schlemmer Archive wants create a digital platform that represents his work.
Problem & Solution 🤝
The problem for the Oskar Schlemmer Archive Studio was to portray his work in a minimalistic yet also visually pleasing way. My solution was to approach with a modern aesthetic and put focus on the paintings.
Goals/Requirements:
• Modern Typography
• Adequate Whitespace
• Large Imagery
Process 🛣
The first step was to familiarize myself with his art style. Through some research and reading I could visualize a suiting aestethic. Along the way I discovered that he had some publications in which you could narrow down some of his preferred fonts. Based on that knowledge I chose something that was suitable however not the same. We went with Century Gothic.
The last step was identifying which work of the Triadic Ballet we were going to display. Here we made the decision to display all the work in a chronological order.
Results 🎁
All in all - we came up with a solution that was fitting to our problem we had before. We successfully managed to come up with a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and highlight the work of the artist.
Takeaways 📣
During the course of this project I got the enjoyment of working on a platform for a fellow creative artist - as a photographer these are projects that I enjoy the most.
