COVID-19 is a highly infectious respiratory illness caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It first emerged in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has since become a global pandemic, affecting millions of people and causing widespread illness, death, and significant disruption to the world economy and daily life. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented measures such as lockdowns, travel restrictions, and widespread mask-wearing. Vaccination campaigns are underway in many countries as a way to combat the pandemic.
