From Concepts to Chapters: Teaching Comprehensive Fiction Skills

Michael Davis

"Humanities tends to be something most people don't know much about, so: how to write properly (fictional or not), how to review, correct and edit what you just wrote... those are very interesting topics that are very useful in 90% of the jobs."

This ongoing coaching project centers around teaching comprehensive fiction writing and editing skills to a mentee with a strong background in science but limited exposure to humanities.
Our sessions have covered the essentials of crafting engaging narratives, from conceptualizing ideas to detailed manuscript drafting and editing.
The mentee has successfully developed a full-length manuscript and a thoroughly outlined narrative, demonstrating significant progress in understanding and applying complex writing techniques.
This project highlights my capability to adapt teaching methods to different learning backgrounds and emphasizes the importance of structured writing and revision practices in producing polished and compelling literary work.
