SKIT Website Redesign for Enhanced Admissions Experience

A 25-year-old engineering college needed more than a visual refresh.

Sri Krishna Institute of Technology's website had years of information, but the experience wasn't doing enough to help prospective students and parents understand the institution, explore programs or take the next step.
I redesigned and built the new SKIT website in Framer, focusing on information architecture, UX, visual design, responsive layouts and a clearer admissions journey.

The Problem

The website had the information. The experience was holding it back.

The existing website had several issues across navigation, content, visual design and mobile usability.
The biggest challenges were:
Outdated visual design and inconsistent styling
Poor mobile responsiveness
No consistent design system
Important admissions CTAs buried in the content
No central departments hub
Fragmented placement information
Low-quality imagery
Large amounts of unused space
Limited visual storytelling around students, campus and achievements
The goal wasn't simply to make SKIT look newer.
It was to create a website that could build trust, communicate the institution's strengths and make the path to admission clearer.
*The previous homepage relied heavily on static content and didn't give key admissions information enough prominence.*

Starting With the Homepage

The first screen needed to answer one question: Why SKIT?

The original hero used a static building image with an admission announcement but didn't communicate a strong reason to explore the institution.
The new homepage starts with a student-focused hero and a clearer proposition:
“Build Your Engineering Career at SKIT”
Important information such as the CET code, COMED-K information, placement highlights and Apply Now CTA is brought closer to the beginning of the experience.
Moving from a static institutional introduction to a clearer student-focused first impression.

Making Admissions Part of the Experience

Applying shouldn't feel like a scavenger hunt.

Admissions information was brought closer to the user's journey instead of being buried inside the website.
The experience surfaces key admission routes, relevant information and enquiry opportunities, giving prospective students a clearer path from exploring SKIT → understanding their options → making an enquiry.
The homepage also introduces “Start Your Journey at SKIT”, bringing the enquiry form, FAQs and chatbot into the experience.
Creating clearer paths for prospective students to move from interest to enquiry.

Building a Departments Hub

Eight departments needed one place to start.

The old website didn't have a central departments hub, which made discovering individual programs unnecessarily difficult.
I created a visual department hub where visitors can explore all 8 academic departments through dedicated cards.
Each department then has its own structured experience with:
HOD message
Faculty profiles
Department achievements
Recruiter information
FAQs
Academic information

Turning Department Pages Into Experiences

A department page should show more than a course name.

Individual department pages were redesigned to communicate the people, achievements and opportunities behind each program.
Faculty are presented through dedicated profiles, achievements are given visual treatment, and recruiter information helps connect each department to real industry outcomes.
Bringing people, achievements and career opportunities into the department experience.

Reframing Placements

Placement information needed to feel like an outcome, not a list of company names.

The previous placement experience was largely text-based, with company names and information split across separate pages.
The redesigned experience brings the story together through:
642 students placed 228 companies 24/7 placement support
It also introduces recruiter logos, placed-student profiles and industry partnerships to give the numbers more context.
Turning fragmented placement information into a visual story around outcomes and opportunities.

Giving SKIT's Story More Weight

Twenty-five years of history deserved more than a paragraph.

The About page was redesigned around SKIT's institutional story.
Instead of a static text-heavy introduction, the new experience brings together:
25 Years 10,000+ Engineers 100+ Faculty 200+ Placed This Year
It also introduces the founder, leadership team, core values and accreditation information from AICTE, NAAC and VTU.
Using people, milestones and accreditation to communicate institutional credibility.

Making Campus Life Visible

College life shouldn't disappear behind text.

The Events experience was rebuilt as a visual hub rather than a collection of text descriptions.
The new page brings together events and fests, including BuildForBengaluru, Fests 2024, SKIT in Bengaluru, FTT International Conference and Convocation Day, alongside photography and guest highlights.
Events Detail page
Turning scattered event information into a visual representation of campus life.

Faculty as Part of the Experience

Faculty profiles became more than names and email addresses.

The previous profiles provided basic information such as name, designation and email.
The redesigned profiles create dedicated pages with structured information covering:
Qualifications · Experience · Skills · Publications · PhD Guidance · Academic Contributions · Awards · Grants
This gives prospective students and visitors a much clearer understanding of the people behind the institution.
Expanding faculty profiles into structured academic profiles.

Designing the System

A website this large needs consistency.

With multiple page types and a large amount of content, consistency became an important part of the redesign.
I established reusable patterns across navigation, buttons, cards, typography, content sections and other interface elements so that the different areas of the website still felt like one system.
Reusable interface patterns create consistency across different areas of the website.

Responsive by Design

The website had to work beyond desktop.

The redesigned experience was adapted across desktop, tablet and mobile, with layouts and components adjusted according to screen size and content priority.
Navigation, spacing, cards, imagery and content hierarchy were all considered as part of the responsive experience.
Adapting the experience across screen sizes instead of simply scaling down the desktop layout.

Bringing It to Life in Framer

The final design needed to work as a real website.

I built the redesigned SKIT experience in Framer, working with responsive layouts, reusable components and CMS-driven content where required.
The CMS structure allows recurring content across areas such as departments, events and other institutional information to be managed more efficiently.

SEO + AEO

A large information system also needs to be discoverable.

The website was structured with SEO and AEO in mind, including page structure, headings, metadata and organized content that makes important institutional information easier for search engines and AI-powered search experiences to understand.
This is particularly relevant for a website with dedicated pages covering admissions, departments, placements, faculty and other institutional information.

The Result

From an information-heavy website to a more structured digital experience.

The redesigned SKIT website brings together:
Admissions 8 Academic Departments Placements Faculty Campus Events Institutional Information
into one connected experience.
The new site combines a stronger visual system with clearer navigation, responsive layouts, structured content and a Framer implementation designed to support the scale of the institution.

What I Learned

Designing a large website is less about designing more pages and more about making every page work together.

SKIT pushed me to think beyond individual screens.
The project involved balancing the needs of prospective students, parents, faculty and other visitors while working with a large amount of institutional information.
It taught me how much information architecture, hierarchy and content structure influence the quality of a visual design.
